Alt-D: Design, Technology, and Criticality

Thu, February 11, 2016, 7pm
Shaowen Bardzell, Carl DiSalvo, and Anthony Dunne curated by Anne Burdick
MDP Design Dialogues

Designing for political action, cultural critique, theoretical inquiry, and social justice can lead to alternative futures for citizens, scholars, and designers themselves. But are alternatives enough? This panel will explore the status of self-proclaimed critical approaches to design and technology, asking questions such as: What relevance does 20th century critical theory have for design today? Is design and/or critique the right tool to affect social change? Is academic design a first-world folly? and more.
