Primitives

The world is, more than ever, mediated by machines and interactive systems with advanced capabilities such as facial recognition and detecting our presence. As this quantified, heavily analyzed, and machine-mediated version of the world is becoming the “new normal”, machine reading, interpretation, and feedback loops from human to machine back to human might deliver unexpected considerations for interaction design. Primitives posits that the computer systems we use have become part of our peripheral vision, both metaphorically and literally. Using computer vision as design material, the project explores a narrative form in which machine thinking determines and influences the interpretation of various situations.
